Snickerdoodle Cookies - A Family Favorite!

This Snickerdoodle Cookie recipe is by far the best we've had yet and my family CAN'T get enough! They're soft enough to melt in your mouth! It's a super simple recipe and for the most part uses ingredients that you'd already have around the house.

  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (divided from the above sugar)
In a large mixing bowl, combine the butter and sugars until creamy. Next, beat in the egg and vanilla. Stir until smooth.

In a separate bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking soda, and cream of tartar. Pour the flour mixture slowly into the cream mixture while continuing to stir well. Stir until mixtures come to a good dough consistency.

Place the dough in refrigerator covered for 20-30 minutes. While the dough is cooling, make your cinnamon/sugar mixture by combining the cinnamon with the sugar in a small bowl. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F.

Pull the dough from cooling and begin to roll the dough into balls, about the size of a ping pong ball. Once the dough has been rolled, take the dough balls and roll them around in the cinnamon mixture until the dough is covered with the cinnamon mixture. Set the ball on a greased cookie sheet and use your hand to press the ball down into a cookie form. Complete for the rest of the cookies.

Bake for 14 minutes. Allow cookies to cool for 5 minutes.

Makes 24 cookies (2 dozen)
